The Community Foundation of South Lake County awarded a $10,000 grant for graduation rates by using the ACT Prep Initiative.  This initiative has earned an 83% success rate since its inception in 2012.

The ACT Prep Initiative supports students who are at risk of not graduating high school due to low performance in the reading section of the required Florida standardized test. These students have met all the requirements for graduation except the reading component.

Lake County Public Schools is working in conjunction with the Sylvan Learning Center to develop a highly successful remedial reading program. The ACT Reading Prep Program is a verified solution to the challenge of seniors unable to earn a high school diploma because they are unable to meet the graduation reading requirement.

The mission of the Community Foundation of South Lake County is to provide leadership to enhance the quality of life in South Lake County by identifying community needs and seeking philanthropic support as permanent funding to meet those needs.
