Raised in Charlotte, North Carolina, Carman moved to Florida to attend Ringling School of Art and holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree. She spent 25 years in the newspaper industry where she managed the advertising and art departments in Sarasota FL, Fayetteville, AR and Leesburg, FL. She joined the Educational Foundation board in 1998 and served as president 2000-2002. In 2004 she accepted the Executive Director position. Carman graduated from Leadership Lake County in 1999, was inducted into the Lake County Women’s Hall of Fame in 2002, and received the Community Service Judge’s Award in 2008. She resides with her husband Eric Batt and they have 4 children and 5 grandchildren. She says of her job “for years I went to work and made a corporation rich, now I go to work every day and make a difference in the life of a child or a teacher.”
