Jim Miller has been an active member of the Educational Foundation of Lake County Board of Directors since 1992. He is a
staunch advocate for the public school system and served as a Lake County School District Board Member for 4 years. He
has introduced many initiatives to the public school system such as Work Class and Character Counts. In addition to his
work at the foundation he has served as the president of the Leesburg Chamber two times, and is involved in Rotary,
Booster clubs and the Leesburg Partnership. He has won numerous awards including a Community Service Award, George
Pringle Contribution Award, Scott Strong Volunteer of the Year Award and Citizen of the Year Award. He is also a graduate
of Leadership Lake County. Jim has been a volunteer mentor for our Take Stock in Children program for over 10 years and is currently assisting his mentee with his Eagle Scout project.

In 2002 Jim was instrumental in creating the Lady of the Lakes Renaissance Faire, a 2 weekend re-enactment of 16th
century England. This is the largest fundraiser for the Educational Foundation generating close to $400,000 annually. Over
22,000 patrons attend the faire and it has an annual economic impact on the county of 2.5 to 3 million dollars. Over 5,000
students attend the event on Education Day and 200 culinary students cook and serve over $80,000 worth of faire food. A
cast of 130 drama students work for 3 months learning the era and they interact with the patrons. The event requires
over 13,000 volunteer hours and Jim Miller contributes more than 600 hours each year. He has taken on the responsibility
of maintaining the grounds of the 27 acre faire site year round. He has built stages, pole barns, castle walls and back drops
and 500 benches but not only does he build them he donates the money to pay for them.

At 70, Jim’s next act of volunteerism is to compete in Stepping Out for Education, a local version of Dancing with the Stars
in July. Jim’s commitment to his community and especially to education is legendary in Lake County. He is the role model
