Ashley Lantes, a 7th grade science teacher at Windy Hill Middle School, has been named Lake County Schools’ Rookie Teacher of the Year for 2019-2020!

The announcement was made at Lake Sumter State College during a March 13th ceremony that celebrated the Rookie Teachers of the Year from each school. The award goes to outstanding teachers who have been in their instructional role no more than three years. Nominations are made by employees at each school.

Ms. Lantes has been teaching for two years, both of which have been in her current position. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Florida Atlantic University in Exercise Science and Health Promotion.

“I grew up as a Lake County student, attending Clermont Elementary, Windy Hill Middle, and finally graduating from East Ridge High,” she wrote in her application packet. “I have always wanted to give back to the school system that helped shape me into the successful adult I am today.”

Ms. Lantes received a commemorative ring from Herff Jones, a chair from Ernie Morris, two passes to Walt Disney World, and several gift cards from sponsors along with a trophy, and her name will be added to a plaque with past Rookie Teachers of the Year.
